Appleton, Wisconsin-OMNNI Associates has received the award for excellence for development of the City and Town of Brillion Coordinated Comprehensive Plan. The award was presented to OMNNI at the Upper Midwest Regional Conference hosted by the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Planning Association (WAPA) in Milwaukee on October 24.
"The City and Town of Brillion plan was one of the first multi-jurisdictional Smart Growth Planning efforts in the State of Wisconsin," says Amy Emery, AICP, Senior Planner at OMNNI Associates. "The planning process provided both communities an opportunity to work cooperatively to develop goals and objectives that will help guide future decisions."
The Brillion Plan also had the distinct honor of being selected by the United States Department of Agriculture, Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) as one of two national pilot projects in the country. The NRCS provided the City and Town with additional planning and mapping services. Under contract with OMNNI Associates, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and St. Lawrence University (New York), the pilot project will result in the development of a national manual that will provide tools to adequately address the importance of agriculture and natural resources information in comprehensive plans.
The WAPA awards are presented annually to recognize outstanding achievements in planning and to publicize those people and organizations whose activities advance planning in the state of Wisconsin. OMNNI was recognized in the category of Planning Document-Small Jurisdiction (4,999 or smaller population).
