Design of an interchange and frontage road consisting of over 6 miles of new roadway construction. The project was built in conjunction with a new 5,200 runway at the Waupaca Municipal Airport to take advantage of earthmoving efficiencies and favorable construction prices. Through this cooperative effort, Wisconsin taxpayers saved nearly $1M. OMNNI designed the airport expansion and provided construction engineering services.
The interchange structure is a two span, 54W-inch, prestressed concrete girder bridge with an overall length of 249 feet. The 99-foot width accommodates 2 through lanes, a left turn lane, raised median, and a 10-foot bicycle/pedestrian trail on the west side of the structure. The interchange was constructed and opened in 2004.
Design of the bypass project involves connecting the new interchange with the existing STH 22/54 on the east side of Waupaca. The bypass will include a bridge over the Waupaca River. Construction is scheduled for 2007.
