GIS Map - The City of Evansville
One of the central themes identified in the City of Evansville Comprehensive Planning process was “To improve mobility and accessibility options available within a comprehensive transportation network.” The city clearly recognized the importance of providing alternative transportation choices—walking, cycling, transit— as a means to promote a healthy and vibrant Evansville in 2025 and beyond.
Using GIS, OMNNI developed the city’s transportation map combining county and state information, as well as local input. The map addresses New Urbanism approaches: increasing development densities to provide compact, walkable neighborhoods; requiring sidewalks and trails in new developments; retrofitting already developed areas with sidewalks, trails, and bike paths; instituting traffic calming measures; linking open spaces; and requiring street connectivity.
GIS Map - Town of Empire
As part of the comprehensive planning process for the Town of Empire, a Utilities and Community Facilities map was developed. The map identifies all existing and future utilities and community facilities. Of particular interest to the Town was the mapping of potential wind farm turbine locations. In addition, future park land which was identified as a desired amenity by the town residents, was included on the map.
The map was created using data provided by Fond du Lac County, East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, and the Wisconsin DNR, as well as local input.
GIS Map – Town of Sevastopol
As part of the comprehensive planning process for the Town of Sevastopol, a Future Land Use map was developed. Using an orthophoto for the background to help add depth to the map, the existing land use was layered on top of the orthophoto with partial transparency. Proposed trail systems were added based on the citizens’ preferences and the Bay Lakes Regional Planning Commission designated trail corridors.
A riparian buffer of 50 feet was added to all of the rivers and streams to protect the natural resources. Finally, a future land use layer was created showing the areas in which citizens’ individual opinions were combined into an all encompassing design to show the preferred future land use for the Town of Sevastopol. The base data for the map was provided by Door County. The riparian buffer, proposed trail system, and future land use categories were identified by the community members. The map will be used to guide development in the Town of Sevastopol in the next 20 years.
