Maple-Oregon Street Bridge,
Sturgeon Bay, WI

OMNNI provided concrete mix design, quality control testing and maturity curve development during the construction of the new Maple – Oregon Street Bridge in Sturgeon Bay, WI. The project is a large lift-span bridge that crosses the Sturgeon Bay shipping canal. OMNNI provided four concrete mix designs, including lightweight and counterweight mixes, on-site quality control of plastic concrete and concrete aggregates, test cylinder compression testing, concrete unit weight test blocks and maturity vs. compressive strength curve development for two of the concrete mixes.

Maturity vs. strength curves are used in conjunction with sensors placed directly into the concrete structure to estimate the in-place strength of concrete and provide “real time” data on the progress of concrete strength gain.

Hwy 141,
Coleman, WI

This award-winning project was constructed by Michels Paving and consisted of approximately 10 miles of new four-lane warranted concrete pavement. During concrete paving operations, Michels Paving accelerated construction by using the maturity method to estimate concrete strength to determine when sections of newly paved roadway could be opened to construction traffic. As a consultant to Michels Paving, OMNNI Associates provided the following services:

  • Concrete mix design
  • Quality control testing during paving operations
  • Strength vs. Maturity curve development
