CTH A Overpass Bridge at USH 10,
Waupaca County, Wisconsin
Design of a two span, 54W-inch pre-stressed concrete girder bridge on a new location. Project work included preliminary and final structure plans and specifications. Since the interchange is the entryway into the City of Waupaca, the Waupaca Area Growth Management Ad Hoc Advisory Committee, (comprised of area community leaders, and business community representatives) requested that the bridge be aesthetically pleasing to visitors entering the City of Waupaca and the Chain-of-Lakes area. OMNNI presented several different designs to the committee and the chosen design was incorporated into the final bridge plans.
The community also requested the addition of a bicycle pedestrian trail along the west side of the new bypass highway. With the increased traffic on Highway 10 and its conversion to a freeway, community leaders recognized this as a barrier to pedestrians and bicyclists. It was determined that provisions should be made for a safe crossing of Highway 10 that could tie in to the developing City of Waupaca and Waupaca County trail system. The interchange bridge across Highway 10 was widened and a 10' wide trail, separated from traffic by a parapet wall, was added along the west side of the bridge.
